ALPHA modern languages centre was established in 2002 under Faculty of Letters of the Babes-Bolyai University. Its linguistic objectives are varied and reflect in the teaching, assessment, research and training activities.

ALPHA Centre addresses both students and employees of Babes-Bolyai University and other categories of external applicants.

The centre is oriented primarily towards students and graduates with the following specialisations:

  • Preparation for international examinations: Cambridge, TOEFL, IELTS, DELF, DELE, Sprachdiplom, etc.
  • Romanian as a foreign language courses on three levels
  • Preparation and training for specialists in teaching Romanian as a foreign language

2. Linguistic Competence examinations based on which the centre issues the ALPHA Certificate for Linguistic Competence  

  • Linguistic competence examinations for enrolling to undergraduate, master's, doctoral programmes
  • General linguistic competence examinations for scholarships, employment, promotions, etc.

FOR THE IMPROVEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNICATION IN THE PUBLIC FIELD

LINGUA Centre for Modern Languages was established in 1999 under the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babes-Bolyai University. The mission of the centre is to meet the extracurricular needs for language training, testing and improvement of students and community in line with the European requirements and Linguistic Policy of the Babes-Bolyai University. LINGUA Centre is affiliated to the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education – CERCLES.
The centre is oriented primarily towards students and graduates with the following specialisations:

  • Economics Studies
  • Business
  • European Studies
  • Political and Administrative Sciences

Following the LINGUA examination the LINGUA Centre issues the LINGUA Certificate for Linguistic Competence - general/ business language, for enrolling to undergraduate, master's, doctoral programmes, employment, promotions, scholarships, etc.

LINGUA Centre provides:

THE CENTRE FOR LANGUAGE INDUSTRIES (CLI)

 

The Centre for Language Industries (CLI) was set up on the basis of the Decision issued by the Senate of Babeș-Bolyai University on 17 July 2008; afterwards, the Centre was accredited as a BBU research unit according to Decision no. 308 of 13 May 2013 of the Senate and reaccredited as a smart specialisation unit (linguistic services included) in 2016.

The Centre functions in the framework of the Department of Applied Modern Languages within the Faculty of Letters and is directly subordinated to the former.

CLI is a centre for research, technology & cognitive transfer, as well as for professional documentation and training which provides specialised linguistic services in the fields of translation studies, terminology, conference interpreting, subtitling & localisation, and language engineering.

The whole activity of the Centre relates to the field of applied modern languages and follows two main guidelines:

  • interdisciplinary research (theoretical and practical);
  • professional linguistic services offered to the academic community, institutional partners, and the public concerned.

The Centre for Language Industries runs:

  • programmes of intensive practice of modern languages (short- and long-term courses) for students, graduates, etc.;
  • training and proficiency tests in multilingual professional communication;
  • preparatory work and assessment of prospective candidates for entering the undergraduate programme in Applied Modern Languages.

The language course offer of the Centre includes:

  • English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, as well as Dutch, Finnish, Japanese, Portuguese, and Russian.
