The British Council is looking for the most talented science communicators

The fourth  edition of FameLab International in Romania is taking place this year. The contest is open to young people aged between 18 and 35 who want to communicate their passion for science and technology to the general public and, in particular, to the younger generation.

The regional selection will take place at the Babes-Bolyai University on 9th April at 10.00 in the Nicolae Iorga auditorium, str. M. Kogalniceanu nr. 1.

International Year of Chemistry - "Chemistry - our life, our future"

In the context of the events held throughout the world in 2011 - the International Year of Chemistry, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering together with the Romanian Society of Chemistry from Cluj organized under the aegis of 'Chemistry - our life, our future' a series of conferences aimed at the entire society, promoting the role of chemistry in its development.

 

These events will start on March 11th with the lecture entitled 'Chemistry among us' given by Prof. PhD. Ionel HAIDUC, chair of Romanian Academy.

The Confucius Institute at the Babes-Bolyai University offers the following courses for the 2nd semester of the 2010-2011 academic year:

1. Chinese language course

  • The course is held at the Confucius Institute and is conducted in English by teachers from Chinese universities specialized in teaching Chinese language to foreign students.
  • Fee: 30 lei/semester and it includes the library card.
  • To submit: download and fill in the form on the site of the Institute (confucius.institute.ubbcluj.ro) and send it to the following email address: confucius@ubbcluj.ro until 25th February.
  • Those studying Chinese language for the first time will download and fill in the Chinese course for beginners form
  • Those who started the course in the 1st semester and wish to continue will download and fill in the Chinese course continuation 2nd semester form
  • Those who studied the language for more than a semester will download and fill in the Chinese course intermediary form. Consequently the level of each student will be evaluated during the first course and the students will be regrouped accordingly.

 

The course starts during the week of 28th February - 4th March and the timetable will be communicate by email on 27th February.

2. Chinese calligraphy and painting course

curs caligrafieIntroduction to the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy will consist of:

  • familiarization with the main styles of calligraphy
  • presentation of basic techniques in handling the chinese brush and ink
  • learning the fundamental principles of drawing Chinese characters
  • The course starts during the week of 28th February - 4th March and the timetable will be communicated by email on 27th February.
  • The course total fee is 50 lei and it includes a calligraphy brush and a reusable Chinese calligraphy paper
 To submit: download and fill in the Calligraphy course form on the site of the Institute (confucius.institute.ubbcluj.ro) and send it to the following email address: confucius@ubbcluj.ro until 25th February.
3. Taichi course

  • The course will explore the Tai Chi Quan traditional Chinese style
  • Each saturday, 14:00-15:00 at the Confucius Institute, the course attendees will learn the main techniques and skills specific for the style.
  • Fee: 30 lei/10 hours.

Consolidation of the alumni - academic environment relation

The Ministry of Education, Reasearch, Youth and Sports (MECTS) together with the regional partners: Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, West University of Timișoara, Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Novensys Corporation, Gold Agama Consulting and Students National Union of Romania (UNSR) launched in January the project: Management of communication with alumni for the higher education institutions in Romania, a project co-funded by the Sectoral Operational Programme for Human Resources Development (SOP HRD), 2007-2013.

"Management of communication with alumni for higher education institutions in Romania" aims to create a link between higher education outputs and inputs on the labor market, using the university graduates as one of the most important resources and also links with the labour market. Specifically, the project aims to create an effective means of communication between universities - students - alumni - employers to help future graduates to understand and respond to the needs of the labour market.
The project is meant for students, teachers in the university management, teachers involved in committees for quality assurance in higher education and curriculum development as well as for business persons with activities in area related to the fields in which are trained the students of partner universities."Management of communication with alumni for institutions of higher education in Romania" shall be placed on Priority 1 - "Education and training for economic growth and knowledge-based society", in the main area of ​​intervention 1.2 - "Quality in higher education" and has a running time of 30 months. The total value of the project is 20,860,047.58 lei, of which the non-refundable financial assistance is 15,738,001.18 lei. 

UBB Alumni Mentor program

The Babes-Bolyai University Alumni Association is launching at the beginning of this year the first edition of the UBB Alumni Mentor program, supported by the UBB Fund Raising Office.
Alumni Mentor is a program designed to connect students and graduates of the Babes-Bolyai University with shared academic and professional interests, in order to support the development of the student.
Through this program UBB students receive guidance in order to meet their most challenging professional goals and UBB graduates identify future collaborators, research partners or employees.  So far over 60 mentors from 15 countries enrolled in the program.

Calendarul Mentor Alumni 2011 este următorul:
January 10 - February 27 program promotion and registration of students and mentors
February 27 - March 13 students and mentors are paired up
March 14 - July 4 the actual mentoring phase
